UK-Born Boston U Student Sics ICE On Car-Wash Workers

New details are coming to light after nine people employed at a Boston car wash were detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Nov. 4, sparking backlash.

The president of the Boston University College Republicans, Zac Segal, claimed on social media three days after the arrests that he was the reason ICE agents showed up at the car wash in the first place.

“I’ve been calling ICE for months on end. This week they finally responded to my request to detain these criminals,” Segal posted to his account on X. “As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I’ve seen how American jobs are being given away to those with no right to be here. Pump up the numbers!”

According to the Boston University athletics website, Segal was born in London and received schooling in the United Kingdom.

Todd Pomerleau, the attorney who represents the nine detainees, says Segal can exercise his 1st amendment rights in the United States, but says he finds his arguments ironic.

“He’s talking about how the jobs are being taken by nine people working at a car wash — well, he’s taking up a college student’s seat who’s from America by his same rationale,” Pomerleau said.
