- U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan departed Moscow on Sunday and will officially retire when he returns home.
- Sullivan’s post will be temporarily filled by Elizabeth Rood, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.
- Sullivan, of Boston, appointed to the post in 2019 under former President Trump. His his retiring from a four-decade career that spanned five presidencies.
- Boston native is a former deputy secretary of State and held senior posts at the departments of Commerce, Defense and Justice.
