US Ambassador To Russia Visits Jailed American Reporter

  • U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy paid a visit to Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich in a Moscow prison on Friday, according to the embassy. This visit comes as Gershkovich prepares for a new appeal against his pre-trial detention on espionage charges, which he vehemently denies.
  • In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the embassy mentioned that Gershkovich remains resilient and stays informed about current events, even following his parents’ recent appearance at the United Nations.
  • Evan Gershkovich was apprehended on March 29 in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg on charges of espionage, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years. Both Gershkovich, his employer (the Wall Street Journal), and the U.S. government have strongly refuted these allegations.
