The State Department is renewing an advisory warning Americans not to travel to Venezuela due to a high risk of instability amid heightened concern that President Trump is planning to invade the country.
The State Department renewed its classification of Venezuela at Level 4, “Do Not Travel.”
The new advisory, issued Wednesday, warns against travel to or remaining in Venezuela “due to the high risk of wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure.”
“Do not travel to Venezuela for any reason,” it stresses.
All U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents in Venezuela are strongly advised to depart immediately.
The updated advisory, which replaces one from May 12, does not make note of increased hostilities between the U.S. and Venezuela but instead focuses on instability in the country.
