US Short On Bomb-Sniffing Dogs, Has To Import Them

  • Bomb-sniffing dogs are in such high demand that the U.S. has had to import dogs from Europe and Mexico.
  • The shortage of dogs was exacerbated around 2013, when the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) disbanded its breeding program.
  • Part of the issue also is that global demand for these animals is on the rise as countries face their own mounting terrorism threats.
