US Stages Joint Air Exercises With Asian Allies after N Korea ICBM Launch

The United States joint air exercises with South Korea and Japan on Sunday – one day after North Korea fired a intercontinental ballistic missile.

  • The joint, bilateral exercises reportedly included strategic bombers.
  • The drills follow North Korea on Saturday launched a long-range ballistic missile into the sea off Japan’s west coast, after the rogue nation warned  about a strong response to upcoming military drills by South Korea and the United States.
  • South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the exercise demonstrated the allied nation’s  “overwhelming” defense capabilities and readiness posture.
  • The group also said the  exercise affirmed the United States’ “ironclad commitment to the defense of the Korean Peninsula.”
