US Universities Promote Snitching To Crack Down On Free Speech: Study

Study finds increase in ‘bias’ reporting measures across U.S. institutions

  • A recent study by free speech advocacy group Speech First has revealed that over half of universities in the United States are promoting anonymous reporting of others for “bias” or “protected identity harm.”
  • The study found that 56% of higher education institutions have implemented measures that encourage “enforcing ideological uniformity,” a 230% increase in private schools and a 175% increase in public schools since 2017.
  • “Colleges and universities routinely threaten their students’ free speech rights,” Speech First Executive Director Cherise Trump said. “Those who fight back are met with open hostility from campus administrators, professors, and peers.”
