Utah Parents File Hundreds Of ‘Pornographic’ Book Complaints

  • The Utah State Board of Education reported that parents have filed hundreds of requests to remove inappropriate books from K-12 libraries.
  • A new law in May has banned “pornographic or indecent” books in schools, and in less than six months, 280 complaints on books have been logged by the Utah State Board of Education.
  • Senator John Johnson, R-Ogden, said, “I read a lot in the press that we’re banning books or we’re burning books.” He added, “But I really feel strongly that we have an obligation to protect the innocence of children.”
