- Washington Democrat Gov. Jay Inslee said Monday he will not seek an unprecedented fourth term.
- “Serving the people as governor of Washington state has been my greatest honor,” Inslee said. “I’m ready to pass the torch.”
- Washington, unlike most states, does not impose term limits on its governors.
- Inslee was the second governor in the state to serve three terms, and he made an unsuccessful bid in 2020 to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
- He also said in announcing his plans that under his administration the state has passed “the nation’s best climate policies” and has shown “diversity is a strength worth fighting for.”
