Washington Nationals Ban Person Who Showed White Nationalist Banner At Game

The Washington Nationals say the team has identified and banned at least one person who unveiled a sign espousing white nationalist ideology during a Sunday home game.

Video taken from the team’s stadium on Sunday showed at least two people in an Upper Deck section of the ballpark unfurling a banner calling for the deportation of “100+ million” and promoting a white nationalist website.

An usher at the game attempted to confront and confiscate the banner before the three individuals who unfurled it fled, The Athletic reported.

In a statement to the outlet, the Nationals said the team “vehemently condemn discriminatory and hateful rhetoric, and we strive to make our home field a safe space for our fans.”

The right-wing activist Jake Lang, who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, appeared to take credit for the incident on social media, writing, “they might have killed us if we didn’t get escorted out.”
