Weinstein Trial Opens, Prosecution Says Female Victims ‘Feared’ Movie Mogul

The prosecution opening it sexual assault case Monday against Harvey Weinstein, saying the Hollywood producer used his power and influence to rape women, who feared reprisal would ruin their career.

  • The trial in Los Angeles is the second for 70-year-old Weinstein on charges of sexually assaulting women.
  • Jurors are set to hear from eight women who alleged they were sexually assaulted by the “Pulp Fiction” producer.
  • “They feared that he could crush their careers if they reported what he had done,” Deputy District Attorney Paul Thompson told those in the courtroom.
