The White House press office recently announced stricter restrictions for press badges, which now require current holders to reapply by July 31st. Under the new rules, the administration is authorized to remove journalists who refuse to behave professionally.

Since 2017, press badges have been automatically renewed. However, going forward, reporters must provide a letter verifying their “full-time employment with an organization whose primary business is news dissemination.”

For freelance journalists seeking access to the briefing room and presidential events, they must now submit letters from two news organizations describing their affiliation, or a letter from their primary organization explaining the extent and duration of their relationship with that organization.
