White House Defends Marines Flanking Biden At Speech
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Marines at Biden's Philadelphia speech was to demonstrate president’s respect for service members.

- The two Marines, behind and one each side of Biden, Thursday, raised questions about use of the military during a speech that criticized former President Trump and warned that he and Republicans aligned with him are “a threat to this country.”
- Press secretary also argued Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, as Republican presidents, had service members on hand for speeches.
- “Presence of the Marines at the speech was intended to demonstrate the deep and abiding respect the president has for these service members to these ideals and the unique role our independent military plays in defending our democracy no matter which party is in power,” Jean-Pierre said.
