Whitmer Brags About Pipeline That She Tried To Turn Off

  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer boasted during her debate with Republican Tudor Dixon about Line 5, a five-mile dual pipeline that spans the lakebed of the Straits of Mackinac and provides 55% of Michigan’s propane.
  • There’s only one problem: Whitmer wanted to shut down Line 5, but couldn’t do so because of a 1977 treaty with Canada.
  • Dixon noted that President Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Whitmer Line 5 couldn’t be shuttered.
  • Dixon called out Whitmer during the debate: “Line 5 has not been shut down but that’s not because Gretchen Whitmer hasn’t tried. … The only reason it’s not shut down is because other people have stopped her radical energy agenda.”
