Winter Storm To Bring First Significant Snowfall Of Season To Northeast

A developing storm system is expected to deliver the first impactful winter weather of the season across the Northeast on Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow, freezing rain, and gusty winds are forecast to affect large portions of New England and the Mid‑Atlantic, with hazardous travel conditions likely inland from the coast.

As the storm tracks northeastward on Tuesday, freezing rain and icy conditions are possible across the central and southern Appalachians. This could make travel hazardous in mountain passes and valleys. Showers and thunderstorms are also expected along portions of the East Coast as the system approaches.

By late Tuesday, the low pressure center is forecast to deepen over New England. Mid‑level moisture interacting with colder air north of the system will enhance winter precipitation across much of New England and the Mid‑Atlantic.

Gusty winds are also possible, particularly inland from the coast. The National Weather Service notes that uncertainty remains regarding exact snowfall totals, but the potential for significant accumulations is increasing.

Interior areas north and west of the I‑95 corridor are most likely to see heavy snow, with more than six inches possible in some locations. This marks the first widespread winter storm of the season for the region, and officials are urging residents to prepare for difficult travel conditions and monitor updated forecasts as the system unfolds.
