When formally unveiling the agenda, in September 2022, before Republicans won control of the House two months later, then House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said a GOP-led House would vote to eliminate federal funding for up to 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service agents, which was part of the Democrats’ $780 billion Inflation Reduction Act.Shortly after the new session of Congress began in January, the GOP-led House passed the bill repealing the additional IRS funding.
