Connecticut Egg Farm Fire Kills 100,000 Chickens

The massive blaze occurred Saturday at a farm in Bozrah, Conn.

  • Over 100 firefighters fought the fire for over  four-and-a-half hours battle before bringing it under control Saturday afternoon.
  • The the town fire marshal is investigating the three-alarm chicken coop blaze.
  • The fire comes amid already-high egg prices, in part due to a large of avian influenza in the United States.
  • Over 58 million birds have died from the influenza since last year, according to Agriculture Department data.
