Two police officers were shot and killed during a shootout Sunday night in a suburb near Syracuse, N.Y., according to multiple reports.

An Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Syracuse police officer were fired upon while responding to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Syracuse suburb of Salina, multiple outlets reported.

Mousa Alzokari, a resident in the area who lives across the street from the house where the police officers were killed, said he heard about 20 shots fired around 8:45 p.m., according to Syracuse.com. He called the police shortly after that.

Police officers arriving on the scene claimed they heard a “racking” sound coming from a house and also saw AR-style magazines in the back of a vehicle, Syracuse.com reported.
