23 Skiers and Snowboarders Rescued After Getting Lost In Frigid Temperatures

On Saturday, twenty-three skiers and snowboarders required rescue in frigid temperatures after getting lost in the backcountry in Killington, Vermont, according to the police.

Following a call around 2:30 p.m., search and rescue teams hiked, snowshoed, and utilized skis with skins to cover approximately 5 miles and safely bring back a group of 21 lost skiers and riders, as posted by Killington police on Facebook.

With temperatures in the single digits, the rescued individuals warmed up in rescuers’ vehicles upon their return. Subsequently, another call came in for two additional lost skiers, prompting six rescuers to re-enter the woods, locate them, and guide them to safety around 7:30 p.m., according to the police.

“A special thanks should be given to all the volunteers who responded and worked this call,” the police department posted.

The rescue efforts involved members of Killington Search and Rescue and the Killington Resort Ski Patrol, with the police department expressing gratitude to all the volunteers who responded and participated in the operation.
