3 Names On Epstein List To Remain Sealed Until At Least Jan. 22

A sealed list with over 150 names associated with late financier Jeffrey Epstein was set to be divulged, but three names will remain sealed until January 22, according to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. On Wednesday, Judge Loretta Preska approved a 30-day extension, which was requested by an individual identified only as “John Doe 107”. The anonymous party requested the extension to ensure their identity remained obscured due to the belief that personal safety may be at risk.

In an official court filing, the anonymous party cited the “risk of physical harm” as the reason for their anonymity request. The nature of the physical threat was not detailed in the filing. Doe 107’s rationale for the request was in response to Judge Preska’s decision in July which ruled that the records containing a list of people associated with Epstein would be disclosed, following allegations of sexual abuse by the deceased financier.

The filing read: “Letter filed by John Doe 107. ENDORSEMENT: Doe 107’s request for a 30-day extension is approved. Doe 107 shall, by January 22, 2024, submit to the Court for in camera review an affidavit (1) supporting her assertion that she faces a risk of physical harm in her country of residence and (2) providing detail concerning the hate mail she has received. Doe 107’s counsel may also provide by this date any additional factual support for Doe 107’s contention that unsealing the relevant records would put her at risk of physical harm. SO ORDERED. (Signed by Judge Loretta A. Preska on 12/21/2023)”

As previously reported, the unsealing of documents containing a lengthy list of people associated with Jeffrey Epstein was granted by US District Judge Loretta Preska. The documents are said to include the names of associates, potential clients, and victims of the disgraced financier. The ruling will allow for the release of files related to the settled case between Epstein’s ex-partner Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking and conspiracy, and Epstein’s former victim, Virginia Giuffre. A deadline of January 1 was set for the release of the documents.

Reports suggest that high-profile figures, including former US President Bill Clinton, are expected to appear on the list. Clinton has reportedly been identified as “Doe 36” in the files. Prince Andrew is another well-known figure who is said to feature in the documents. However, despite their names being included, it is unlikely that any legal action will be taken against these individuals.
