- Five U.S. border agents were shot, including one fatally, during an altercation with drug smugglers off the coast of Puerto Rico early Thursday morning, the Washington Examiner has learned.
- The shoot-out happened 14 miles off the coast of northwestern Puerto Rico. First responders surged resources to the island to life-flight agents to hospitals.
- The agents were from U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations arm. AMO agents work the air and sea to patrol for human and drug smugglers.
