- Incumbent Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock and GOP challenger were required by the state to enter a runoff election because neither meet the 50% threshold for an outright win.
- The office of the Georgia secretary of state originally said counties can hold Saturday voting in runoff elections, then ruled that a part of the state’s election code barring voting two days after a holiday, which would disallow such voting after Thanksgiving Thursday.
- Warnock’s campaign, the state Democratic Party and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, in response successfully sued the state, arguing that the policies cited didn’t apply to runoff elections.
