- Hogan defied odd by becoming governor of blue state Maryland in 2016 and also won a second term in 2020.
- Hogan won in large part because voters were tired of tax imposed by preceding Gov. Martin O’Malley, a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully ran for president in 2016.
