The California Reparations Task Force is set to take a critical vote on possible payments to black residents.
Weirdly, an eligible resident needs to have lived in California their whole life and be 71 or older. Then, they’d receive as much as $1.2 million.
So far, there’s no estimated cost. The task force has been asked to estimate the total financial losses suffered by black Californians affected by slavery and institutional racism.
