Schools Start Classes Later In Morning In Attempt To Improve Students’ Mental Heath

A Pennsylvania high school is starting classes two hours later with the goal of easing strains on students that became more visible as the COVID-19 pandemic started to wane.

The idea of staring school later to help students get more sleep has been considered for year, but it gained momentum during the pandemic, amid the rising number of  high school students expressed persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.

“I’ve been much happier in the mornings,”Upper Darby High School student Khlid Doulat said. “I’ve been more positive, and I’ve come to school smiling more rather than, you know, grudging out of bed and stuff like that at 7:30.”
