President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to join forces to advocate for abortion rights in Virginia on Tuesday.

This issue is a top priority for Democrats in an election year that is widely expected to feature a rematch against former Republican President Donald Trump.

The event will mark the first time that Biden and Harris, along with their spouses, First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, will appear together on the campaign trail. Their joint appearance highlights the extreme importance that Democrats are placing on the issue of abortion this year.

On the eve of this event, Harris was in Wisconsin to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. However, two years ago, Trump’s administration overturned this decision with the help of three conservative justices that he nominated.

Harris was quick to criticize Trump’s “proud” stance on the issue and pointed out the detrimental effects that this decision has had on women’s fundamental freedoms and the risks to doctors who help their patients. She described abortion as an integral part of the country’s tradition of personal liberty, which is a viewpoint that will form the basis of her nationwide tour to promote the issue.

Biden’s latest TV ad features the powerful testimony of Dr. Austin Dennard, an OB-GYN from Texas who was forced to leave her state to get an abortion after discovering that her baby had a fatal condition called anencephaly. In the ad, Dennard states that in Texas, women are forced to carry pregnancies because of Donald Trump’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.

This event in Virginia marks the continuation of this important conversation about abortion rights and will be attended by high-profile Democrats who are dedicated to giving women more control over their reproductive health decisions. The issue is expected to drive the party’s agenda in the upcoming election year, with the Democrats hoping to prevail against their Republican opponents on this key issue.
