On Tuesday, Liz Gereghty, the sister of Michigan’s Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, declared her candidacy for Congress in the 2024 election.
Gereghty announced her intention to challenge freshman Republican Representative Mike Lawler for New York’s 17th District in a campaign video posted on YouTube.
Lawler’s election was regarded as an upset victory in the 2022 midterm elections, as he defeated Sean Patrick Maloney, a former Democratic Representative from New York and the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
