She failed in her position as border czar and has since remained quiet and has given a “disappointing” performance as vice president, Parker also said.
Editorial columnists at The Washington Post are continuing to pressure Vice President Kamala Harris to not run in the 2024 election, this time warning that she risks being President Joe Biden’s “downfall in 2024.”
Washington Post editorial columnist Kathleen Parker wrote a column last week titled, “For the country’s sake, Vice President Harris should step aside.”
The Democratic Party’s “strategy of courting (and pandering to) minority voters is the road to ruin,” Parker wrote in her column.
Harris, a former California attorney general and sitting U.S. senator and the first black woman and first woman of Asian descent to receive the nomination for vice president, is a running mate who could have been created by “artificial intelligence,” Parker said. “But her evolving beliefs undercut that appeal.”
Parker explained that Harris, who is incredibly unpopular, should step down because if Biden picks another running mate instead, he risks losing the 2024 election.
Parker wrote:
“The Kamala conundrum comes down to this: She was picked because she was Black and female, a combo tantamount to job security. Now that she has become a burden to the Democratic ticket, Biden can’t fire her. He can’t risk alienating his base. Full stop. The seriousness of this situation can’t be overstated.”
Additionally, Biden’s age of 81 makes voters think more about the possibility of Harris becoming president mid-term.
Meanwhile, Harris is incredibly unpopular, having an average disapproval rating of 52.3% compared to a 37.2% approval rating, per FiveThirtyEight.
This is not the first time a Washington Post columnist has called on Harris to step down. In September, columnist David Ignatius said both Biden and Harris should not run for reelection in 2024.
