- Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Sunday seemed to try to head off New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez’s suggestion that race is playing a part in the events surrounding the federal indictment against him on bribery charges.
- “As a Latina, there are absolutely ways in which there is systemic bias. But I think what is here in this indictment is quite clear,” she said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”
- Menendez said Friday after the indictment was announced: “It is not lost on me how quickly some are rushing to judge a Latino and push him out of his seat.”
