Arizona Follows Texas In Uphill Effort To Arrest Illegal Migrants Crossing US-Mexico Border

Arizona state GOP lawmakers are following fellow border state Texas in trying to have enforceable legislation on the books that will allow state and local government, as well as law enforcement, the power to arrest illegal immigrants at the crossing from Mexico amid failures by the federal government to adequately do the job.

However, even if the measure – the Arizona Border Invasion Act – is passed in the state legislature, Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs has vowed to veto it.

The GOP-led Texas Legislature earlier this year passed a similar measure that was promptly signed into law by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

But the law remains on hold under a federal appeals court order in March that will likely prevents Abbott from enforcing it until a broader decision on its legality.
