Average IRS Return Way Down This Year

  • As of March 17, the average refund was $2,933, down from $3,305 at the same time last year.
  • If you file an electronic, error-free return with direct deposit for your payment, you can expect to receive your refund within 21 days of filing, according to the IRS.
