- Belgium has killed more than 27,000 people with euthanasia since the European nation’s “assisted suicide” laws were first introduced in 2002.
- Along with Canada, Germany, and Switzerland, Belgium has some of the most liberal euthanasia laws in the world.
- In 2014, Belgium amended its euthanasia law to make it legal for doctors to terminate the life of a child. However, the updates provoked outrage when it emerged in 2018 that two children, aged nine and 11, became the world’s youngest to be euthanized.
