Former U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at his successor, Joe Biden, calling him the “worst president in the history of the United States” in response to Biden’s speech marking the third anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
Delivering his speech at historic Valley Forge, Biden attacked Trump and painted himself as a defender of democracy. Trump hit back, likening Biden to traitor Benedict Arnold and accusing him of presiding over a “failing nation.”
Trump also criticized Biden’s open-borders policy, claiming that millions of people, including prisoners, mental institution patients and terrorists, are pouring into the country. He blamed Biden for the situation, saying that he is incompetent, crooked and responsible for destroying the country. Trump accused Biden of being a threat to democracy due to his “gross incompetence” and mental challenges.
In his speech, Biden accused Trump of attempting to overturn a free and fair election by force and violence, calling it the “worst dereliction of duty by a president in American history.” He linked Jan. 6 to Trump, likening him to the Nazi dictator responsible for the murder of six million Jews.
The speech was delivered near the historic winter encampment of George Washington’s army, adding to the symbolism of the regime fighting for its survival in an election year that promises to be contentious.
Trump mocked Biden’s speech during a campaign event in Iowa, calling it “pathetic fear-mongering” and taunting him for stuttering through it. He accused Biden of weaponizing government and trying to frame him as a threat to democracy. Trump dismissed Biden’s allegations of an insurrection as phony, arguing that it had zero chance of actually overthrowing the U.S. government.
