President Biden conveyed to fellow leaders at the G7 summit on Friday that the United States will back a collaborative initiative to train Ukrainian pilots in the operation of advanced fighter jets, including U.S.-manufactured F-16s.
According to the official, once the training program is underway, the U.S. and its allied nations will collectively determine the timing, quantity, and providers of the actual fighter jets.
This development holds significance as Ukraine has been advocating for fighter jets for several months, but Biden had previously refrained from supplying American-made aircraft and had shown uncertainty regarding the possibility of allowing European allies to fulfill that role.
