President Biden on Sunday responded to three U.S. soldiers killed in a drone attack along the Jordan-Syria border by saying, “While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”
At least two dozen other soldiers were reportedly injured in the attack.
The deaths are the first for U.S. troops in the Middle East since the war in Gaza began in early-October 2023.
Biden also said there would be consequences for those responsible.
A Jordanian government spokesman has denied the attack happened on Jordanian soil and said they targeted the U.S. al-Tanf base in Syria.
