Border Patrol Apprehensions Of Chinese Nationals Skyrocket Over 700%

Apprehensions of Chinese nationals — including those entering through Canada or on airplanes — up 13 percent for fiscal 2023

  • Compared to fiscal 2022, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has apprehended 719 percent more migrants coming from China at the southern border so far this fiscal year.
  • In all of fiscal 2022, Border Patrol encountered 2,176 Chinese migrants.
  • Since the start of fiscal 2023, which began in October, Border Patrol has encountered 2,999 Chinese nationals at the southern border.
  • By this time in fiscal 2022, Border Patrol encountered 366 Chinese nationals.
