Boston Mayor’s Finance Director Charged With Money Laundering
Part of alleged scheme to smuggle synthetic drugs into state prison system

- Freda Brasfield, finance director for Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, is facing charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
- The crimes are alleged to be part of a scheme to get synthetic drugs into the state prison system.
- Brasfield appeared alongside a couple of the collection of co-defendants, Jaime Liberty and Jayleen Rivera, who both face charges of smuggling synthetic cannabis, known as “K2” or “spice,” into a Massachusetts prison.
- Brasfield has pled not guilty to both charges.
