Burrito Recall As Warning Issued Over ‘Serious Infection’

A range of burritos has been recalled over fears they may contain the bacterium that causes Listeria infections.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) warned consumers that 144 pounds of ready-to-eat burrito products produced by Jen’s Breakfast Burritos LLC of Auburn, Washington, may lead to Listeriosis if eaten.

The incident was discovered after routine testing on the products discovered the presence of the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause “a serious infection,” FSIS explained in its recall notice issued on Sunday, March 10.

The affected products were shipped to “to-go” locations in Washington state. Newsweek has contacted Jen’s Breakfast Burritos for comment via email outside of normal working hours.

The packaging for each product consists of a white label with the product name in yellow or red writing. Each product is wrapped in yellow wax paper and bears the establishment number “EST. 1826” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The FSIS has warned any person who has purchased any of the products not to consume them and either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. It also reminds consumers to check their freezers to see if they have stored it for a later date.
