Celine Dion’s Sister Shares Health Update Following Stiff Person Syndrome Diagnosis

Grammy Award-winning singer Celine Dion’s sister Claudette recently shared an update on the musician’s health status. Celine was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that affects one in a million people and turns them into “human statues” who are unable to walk or talk.

Claudette revealed that Celine doesn’t have control over her muscles, and it pains her to see her sister, who has always been disciplined and hardworking, struggle with this condition. She also shared that Celine would love to perform live again, but the capacity in which she would be able to do so remains uncertain.

The impact of SPS on Celine is also a cause of concern. Claudette highlighted that both the vocal cords and the heart are muscles and are at risk of being affected by the progressive disease. Celine revealed her diagnosis last year after canceling several of her tour stops.

In a video message, the 55-year-old singer explained that she had been dealing with health problems for a long time, and it had been challenging to face her challenges and talk about everything she had been going through. She went on to announce her diagnosis of SPS, which led to the cancellation of the rest of her ongoing tour.

While SPS is an incurable disease, Celine has been receiving treatment to manage the symptoms. The disease causes muscle stiffness, spasms, and rigidity, which progressively worsen over time, making it harder for people to perform daily activities like walking, talking and breathing.

Despite the diagnosis, Celine remains hopeful and grateful for the support and love from her fans. She has continued to share a positive attitude on social media and has been using her platform to raise awareness of SPS and other neurological disorders.
