Committee Members Want Massachusetts National Guard To Bring Protection To Violent High School

Leaders at Brockton High School in Massachusetts are seeking substantial assistance to address escalating violence among students on campus.

Amid a surge in violent incidents, four members of the school committee have requested the deployment of the state’s National Guard to monitor the youth, as reported by NBC Boston on Sunday.

In a letter addressed to Mayor Robert Sullivan on Thursday, the committee members emphasized the urgency of the situation and urged immediate action to avert potential tragedies at the school. The letter outlined their plea:

“Recognizing the gravity of the situation, we are formally requesting that you reach out to Governor Healey and request the deployment of the National Guard to assist in restoring order, ensuring the safety of all individuals on the school premises, and implementing measures to address the root causes of the issues we are facing.”

Acknowledging the significance of collaboration between local and state authorities, the committee highlighted the National Guard’s expertise in crisis management and community support, viewing their involvement as a critical interim measure while a comprehensive, long-term solution is devised in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

However, Mayor Robert Sullivan voiced opposition to the proposal of bringing in the National Guard to aid in resolving the situation, as reported by CBS Boston on Sunday.
