Weather Conditions Worse In Sierra Nevada, Avalanche Warnings, Winds ‘Life Threatening’

Weather conditions in Northern California worsened this weekend amid the power Pacific storm to hit the region.

The storm has already brought about 2 feet of snow to the region and another foot was expected to fall Sunday.

Blizzards conditions have closed a major highway into Nevada as forecasters warned of a high risk of avalanches.

Interstate 80 has been closed between Colfax and the Nevada state line since Friday as high winds whipped up snow squalls, the California Highway Patrol said.

The National Weather Service predicts wind gusts has high as 45 mph and blizzard conditions in the highest mountain elevations.

The storm has closed ski resorts in Lake Tahoe.
