DeSantis Signs Measure Banning Gender Treatments For Minors

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, approved a bill on Wednesday that prohibits gender-transition surgeries and medications for minors.

In his remarks, DeSantis referred to certain factions within the medical establishment as “rogue elements” involved in procedures he described as the “mutilation of minors.” He characterized the banned practices as irreversible.

The legislation received significant support, with an 83-28 vote in favor in the state House and a 26-13 vote in favor in the state Senate, according to Florida’s Voice.
