WSJ Says House GOPer Opposing McCarthy Speakership ‘Dimwitted’

WSJ blasts House Conservatives Against McCarthy Speakership

  • The criticism was leveled was made by the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board in an opinion story posted Saturday.
  • The board didn’t single out by name the faction of the House Republican Conference that opposes House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s bid to become the chamber’s next speaker. But it named Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs, a member of the House GOP conference’s most conservative wing, the House Freedom Caucus, and his attempts to challenger McCarthy’s bid.
  • “He and his rump group also don’t seem to have any constructive reason to oppose Mr. McCarthy beyond a desire to grab the media spotlight or blow everything up,” the op-ed writers say about Biggs and his caucus.
  • The op-ed also reads: “Too many House Republicans are too dimwitted to understand the uses of power and how to wield it. They’d rather rage against the machine to no useful effect.
