Dodgers’ Ohtani On Ex-Interpreter’s Gambling Scandal, ‘I Never Bet On Baseball’

Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani’s on Monday broke his silence about his ex-interpreter’s gambling scandal.

“I never bet on baseball, or any other sports,” he said in a roughly 12-minute statement.

As reporters huddled around Ohtani’s new locker in the Dodgers home clubhouse Sunday, the two-time MVP emerged briefly before the team’s Freeway Series game against the Angels and said he would address reporters Monday.

A Dodgers public relations official later confirmed the plan, which would mark Ohtani’s first public comments since The Los Angeles Times first reported Thursday that he was allegedly the victim of a “massive theft” by his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.

Shohei Ohtani’s representatives have accused interpreter Ippei Mizuhara of engaging in theft of the Dodgers star’s money, allegedly to pay off gambling debts Mizuhara owed.
