Eight Teams Reach NCAA Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 Round, NC State Back After 9 Years

America’s Big Man was at it again on Saturday night. Not only did N.C. State’s D.J. Burns propel his to team its first Sweet 16 in nine years, he did it while accomplishing a feat that hasn’t been done in nearly four decades.

The Wolfpack’s prolific center posted a team-high 24 points along with 11 rebounds for just his second double-double of the season and fourth during his two years at NC State.

The 20-plus point double-double marked the first time in an NCAA Tournament game for the Wolfpack since the 1984-85 season when Lorenzo Charles had 30 points and 10 rebounds against UTEP in the Round of 32 win.

The eight teams already in the elite round of 16 are: Iowa State, Illinois, North Carolina, Arizona, Tennessee, Creighton, Gonzaga and N.C, State.
