Former Representative George Santos, a Republican from New York, is eyeing a prospective role as the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2025, should President Donald Trump secure re-election.

Despite being elected to the House in 2022, Santos faced expulsion from Congress late last year due to charges related to alleged campaign funds misuse and defrauding campaign contributors. Currently engaged in discussions with prosecutors for a potential plea deal, Santos is already contemplating his future.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Santos outlined his New Year’s resolution, expressing the hope that President Trump would return to the White House, allowing him to be appointed as the Director of ICE in 2025. He emphasized the need to “reclaim our country” and criticized what he referred to as “nonsense” figures promoted by the media.

Santos argued that the United States has seen over 50 million individuals invade its sovereignty over the years due to negligent immigration policies. If granted the position, he asserted his readiness to initiate and oversee essential removal proceedings through raids.

While estimates typically suggest a range of 11 to 20 million illegal immigrants in the country, ICE’s non-detained docket comprises approximately six million individuals. Fiscal Year 2023 witnessed around 2.4 million encounters at the southern border, marking a new record.

President Trump has pledged to launch a large-scale deportation operation if he secures re-election, in contrast to the enforcement approach adopted by the Biden administration.
