Retired Army General Mark Milley, who most recently served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has accepted teaching positions at two esteemed universities.

As reported by Axios, Milley will be imparting his knowledge to students at Princeton University, his own alma mater, and Georgetown University, focusing on topics related to national security.

Milley, a Princeton graduate of 1980 who received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, will return to Princeton as a Charles and Marie Robertson visiting professor through the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA).

In a statement, Princeton University announced that Milley would serve as a guest lecturer, interact with students and alumni, collaborate with faculty, and contribute to the School’s Security Studies Ph.D. program.

Dean Amaney Jamal applauded the decision, emphasizing that Milley’s extensive experience in Washington D.C. and conflict zones abroad would offer valuable insights to his students. His appointment at Princeton is slated to conclude in June 2025.

During his tenure as Joint Chiefs Chair, Milley faced numerous high-profile clashes with former President Donald Trump, played a role in the tumultuous Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021, and participated in contentious Capitol Hill hearings on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the military.
