Glove Gate: NASCAR Penalizes Logano For Using Aerodynamic Glove To Get Upper Hand

NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director Brad Moran shows reporters, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the illegal glove Joey Logano of Team Penske was caught wearing during qualifying last week at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR officials on Saturday showed reporters the mysterious left-hand driving glove Joey Logano wore last weekend to qualify for the second-place starting position at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

They will not speculate on why the two-time Cup champion or Team Penske, respectively, used and allowed the black, webbed glove of unspecified material.

But  the theory is that Logano used  it to place his hand out his window as an aerodynamic blocker during the qualifying, according to the Associated Press.

After the glove was detected by officials, Logano was forced to forfeit his second-place starting position and was fined 10,000 for violating NASCAR’s safety code.

He finished 28th.
