Google News Moves Left, Study Shows

An analysis by the news media watchdog group AllSides Technology finds roughly 63% of stories last year on the Google News were from “left and left-leaning news sources.”

In the new analysis released Thursday, 937 stories were reviewed from Oct. 30 to Nov. 14, 2023.

The group found the 2023 percentage was up from 61% in 2022.

“Launched in 2006, Google News is one of the most popular news aggregation tools in the world,” the group says on its website. “It has been scrutinized for allegedly suppressing right-leaning and conservative news and opinions while magnifying those on the left.”

A 39-page report by the group in October 2018, found such by Google News that year was 65%.

AllSides also found that terms that were searched on Google such as “abortion,” “climate change” and “election” would bring up more left-leaning sources than right-leaning ones.
