Hilaree Nelson: US Mountaineer Missing After ‘Skiing Into Crevasse’

World renowned American mountaineer Hilaree Nelson has gone missing on the eighth tallest peak in the world.

  • Hilaree Nelson reportedly fell into a 2,000 foot gap in the ice, termed a crevasse, while descending from Mount Manaslu in Nepal.
  • The North Face-sponsored athlete slipped just 15 minutes after summiting the eighth tallest peak in the world.
  • Over the course of Nelson’s 20-year career, which includes more than 40 expeditions in 16 different countries, she has become one of the world’s most accomplished alpinists and backcountry skiers. Notably, Nelson is the first woman to have climbed Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse in one 24-hour period.
  • A spokeswoman for North Face said they were, “in touch with Hilary’s family and are supporting global search and rescue efforts in any way we can.”
